Born and raised in the Languedoc region of southern France, Gérard Bertrand recalls spending his early years in his father’s vineyard. He quickly began learning the intricacies of growing wine, developing a respect for the earth, and the delicate balance of nature along the way. By the time he reached 10 years old, he already had his first harvest under his belt.

Bertrand’s love of the vineyard was matched only by his passion for rugby. He practiced at the highest level and launched his professional rugby career at the age of 19 as a flanker playing for RC Narbonne. When he retired from the sport in 1994, he was captain of the Stade Français. Following his retirement, he decided to pour all of his energy into taking over his father’s winemaking production—a move that evidently paid off.
