Chile’s Mapu Valley is home to an ancient terroir. It is here that some of the first South American wines were made. Fascinated by the terroir’s unique character and potential, Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s winemakers wanted to get back to the origins of a legendary vineyard and its grape varieties: Mapu wines were born.

Mapu derives its name from the local language, Mapuche, and means ‘land‘. The expertise of Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s people enables them to extract the raw and original expression of these unique terroirs.

Each wine speaks the language of this legendary land, embodied in respect for the terroir, generous fruit, exuberant aromas and flavors, and rich textures.

Mapu wines are proudly multi-awarded in many prestigious and reputed awards such as:

  • Mapu Reserva Chardonnay: 92 points - James Suckling (2019)

Mapu Reserva Chardonnay is matured in vats for a relatively short period of around 6 months in order to preserve all its freshness and fruit.

It has bright, pale yellow with a greenish tinge with a very intense nose opened on grapefruit, jasmine, and peach aromas. On the palate, a vibrant attack leads into a succulent, round, and full mid-palate and a long finish on tropical fruit flavors and a touch of oak.

  • Mapu Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon: 91 points - James Suckling (2019)

In order to give the wine its fruit-driven, complex style, about half the vintage of Mapu Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is matured in oak for 6-8 months before bottling.

It has an intense, bright ruby red with a very fresh and fruit-forward nose that reveals red fruit aromas, especially raspberry, cherry, bilberry, and plum, mingled with black pepper and coffee. On the palate, the well-balanced attack leads into a mid-palate sustained by firm yet gentle tannins as the red fruit flavors found on the nose return alongside delicate notes of spice. The finish is very long, with good acidity.

  • Mapu Grand Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon: 90 points - La CAV (2019)

In order to give the wine its fruit-driven, complex style, 70% of the vintage of Mapu Grand Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is matured in old French oak barrels for 10 months before bottling.

It has deep ruby red with a violet tint with a very fresh and fruit-forward nose that reveals aromas of red berry fruit, blueberry, black plum, and morello cherry mingled with notes of black pepper, together with cedar and vanilla from time spent in oak. On the palate, the intense attack shows good structure and volume. Soft, elegant tannins underpin the berry fruit notes found on the nose while good acidity ensures a long, lingering finish.

  • Mapu Grand Reserva Carmenere: 90 points - La CAV (2019)

In order to give the wine its fruit-driven, complex style, 70% of the vintage of Mapu Grand Reserva Carmenere is matured in old French oak barrels for 10 months before bottling.

It has deep and glittering red with a purple hue with the fresh, intense, and fruit-forward nose reveals aromas of blackberry fruit, especially blackberry and black plums as well as spicy notes of black pepper, rosemary, and clove together with subtle notes of coffee and vanilla that come from time spent in oak. The soft attack leads into a mid-palate sustained by smooth and gentle tannins as the blackberry fruit flavours found on the nose return alongside notes of spice.
