Escudo Rojo is the Spanish translation of the German “Rote Schild”, which means red shield. By giving her name to the wine, Baron Philippe de Rothschild showed that the Rothschild family had come to Chile to stay.

The exacting standards applied in Chile are drawn from the company’s experience in France. Parcel selection and the art of blending, the key to the success of BPR wines, are also used in Chile.

Baronesa P. is a work of exquisite craftsmanship, a rare and unique wine. This is the result of a precise and unique blend of five grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah, each bringing its own aromatic and structural qualities.

The wine is matured in French oak barrels, 65% new and 35% one-year-old. The 2018 wine was matured for 14 months, though the maturing period is adjusted for each vintage to ensure the aromas and flavors that result from time spent in oak meld seamlessly into the whole.

Half the vintage Escudo Rojo Gran Reserva is matured in one-year-old oak barrels for 12 months. It has an intense, glittering crimson with a purple tint with the powerful, very intense, and fruit-forward nose reveals a mixture of red and blackberry fruit aromas, mingled with spicy notes of black pepper and subtle touches of vanilla, caramels, and mocha.

Escudo Rojo Origine comes from the “Valle del Maipo”, 30km South of Santiago. Nestling at the foot of the Andes mountains, it is a valley with a long winegrowing tradition that offers some of the best conditions for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon.

It has a deep ruby red with a purple tint with refined and complex, intense, forward fruit, the nose that reveals wild strawberry, cherry, and blackcurrant aromas mingled with subtle, delicate notes of vanilla and almond.

Escudo Rojo Reserva Syrah is matured in one-year-old oak barrels for six to eight months before bottling. It has a deep, glittering purple with the complex, very intense, and fruit-forward nose that offers aromas of ripe plum, violet, and licorice, followed by white pepper spice mingled with gentle touches of coffee and vanilla from time spent in oak.

Half the vintage of Escudo Rojo Reserva Chardonnay is matured in one-year-old oak barrels for about nine months to achieve a harmonious balance between oaky notes and the freshness of the fruit. It has an attractive pale yellow with a golden hue. The complex and intense nose opens to aromas of white blossom and fruit such as white nectarine, lychee, and pear, mingled with gently toasted hazelnut.
