Originating in the Lot River Valley (Cahors region) in the Southwestern France, Malbec was first known as Auxerrois or Côt. Around the 19th century, Malbec (current common name) was first known as "Malbeck" by a doctor who introduced the grapes to the Bordeaux region.

In France, Malbec is grown in Bordeaux - plays a role as an ingredient in Bordeaux Blends but the area acreage planted Malbec in this region has been decreased. Malbec is also known as "Pressac" in the Bordeaux Right-Bank region.

Cahors region - known as Auxerrois or Côt. Malbec plays a key role in Cahors red wine. Currently, Malbec is playing an important role in the wine production industry in Argentina. It is believed that Malbec was introduced to Argentina in the 1850s. In Mendoza (Argentine), Malbec reaches the highest quality.

Malbec stands out with fruit flavors from black plum, black cherry, violets, and chocolate flavors. Malbec is usually quite acrid but silky tannins, fresh natural acidity brings balance to the wine.
