Did you know that wine is not only used to drink and enjoy meals, it is also used as a cooking ingredient to help enrich flavor and create speciality to dishes.

Staying at home too much and you have been wondering about what to eat today? Or are you bored with the usual daily dishes?

The Warehouse would like to introduce you to the recipe of a Vietnamese cuisine cooked with red wine. Vietnamese Beef Stew (bò sốt vang) is about the easiest recipe for beef stew ever and has a truly unique flavor profile. You will love this dish with nice crusty bread.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. Kosher salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper cracked
  • 1 tsp. coriander ground
  • ⅛ tsp cinnamon ground
  • 2 ¼ lbs stew meat cubed
  • 1 Tsp vegetable oil
  • 2 carrots sliced
  • 6 roma tomatoes cored and chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 pods star anise
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 ½ cup water
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ cup cilantro chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, coriander, and cinnamon.
  2. Cut beef into bite-size pieces and season with spice mixture.
  3. On medium heat, add the olive oil, and quickly stir fry the beef cubes.
  4. Add the garlic, and continue to cook until the garlic begins to soften. 
  5. Add the carrots, tomatoes, anise pods, and the bay leaves. 
  6. Pour in the red wine, water, and tomato paste. Stir.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2 hours.
  8. Finally, serve with plenty of crusty bread.
